What Are Flower Essences?
Flower essences are the preserved expression of the plant. Flowering plants express themselves through their flowers and the flower essence remedy is the preservation of that message.
The flower essence is their message. We can only "hear" this message through the subtle vital force fueling all life.
Dr. Edward Bach, a London Homeopath in the early part of the twentieth century sought a simpler method of preparing homeopathic remedies and discovered a process to harness the "essence" of the plant with its flowers. By observing the effects of different flowers he developed a materia medica of flower essences, describing the effects of each flower on different individuals.
Flower essences work primarily on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels, and can hasten cure physically through healing on these levels. A gentle complement to homeopathic or allopathic treatment, flower essences are unique in two ways. First, they do not antidote each other and work brilliantly in combination, addressing multiple aspects of dis-ease. Second, flower essences are distinctly positive in their healing message. If you are trying to see that the world is good, for example, or to become more honest with someone you love, flower essences can ease you in that direction.
Blackberries are a sweet and wonderful fruit, yet surrounded by sharp thorns. Blackberry’s small white flowers reveal these prickly obstacles to its fruit, and tells us to stay determined amidst difficult situations.
Bach’s 38 flower essences are a small group of flower essences. Paramhansa Yogananda, a great Yogi who powerfully bridged the East and West through his teachings, believed in the innate ability to heal from within. He taught and practiced Kriya Yoga in meditation and advocated using nature to journey on the healing path. Through his teachings, the Master’s Flower Essences have been developed.
The Flower Essence Society of North America has been devoted to developing and proving flower essences from flowers throughout the world; to modernize the set of available flower remedies. With a changing world comes an ever-changing need for healing techniques. Flower essences are especially suited to quickly and safely adapt to these changes.
